TIP: Lining up "TImeless Tropical" Stamps & "In The Tropics" Dies

I have a little tip for you when lining up the Hibiscus flowers from the "Timeless Tropical" stamp set and the coordinating  "In the Tropics" dies from the Tropical Oasis Suite in the 2020 Mini Catalog.

I found myself twirling the die round and round when going to die cut the stamped image.  Here' a little video I put together to save us all a little frustration.  Maybe you have no trouble with this, but I'm all for making my life a little easier.

Let me know if this helps you too.

Tropical Oasis: Palm Tree Birthday!

I think of all the cards we made in class this month, featuring the Tropical Oasis Suite,  from the 2020 Mini Catalog, this was my favorite. It's fairly quick and easy too.

I just love the background, the little flowers and of course, the palm trees remind me of Florida.Thoughts go to somewhere warm always this time of year in Minnesota.  SIGH.....

My favorite, favorite part of the card are the little flowers. When you die cut them, (the die has three flowers connected  but cuts three separate flowers) there are tiny little stars from the center!

Couldn't throw those away, no way!  I used them as embellishments on the card.  Two of the flowers are on the front and one is in the inside, you can just see it peeking out.

The since the flowers have a tiny star cut out of the center, I needed to cover the Mini Dimensional and what better than a pearl from the ocean!

I used the splotchy stamp from Peaceful Poppies for the background on this card, in Pineapple Punch, a 2018-2020 In Color.

In The Tropics: Flashback to the 70's

Recently, I was making a valentine for one of my grandsons, punching out a bunch of circles for records.  (I'll show a card like it later). I had all these left over circles and it reminded me of a technique from a few years ago.  That led me to this card, which, when I finished reminds me of the hippie era, my 20's and all the flower children.

I die cut a bunch of flowers with the die from the "In the Tropics" die set, in the "Tropical Oasis" suite.

I adhered them to a Soft Suede layer and then ran it through the Big Shot with the "Coastal Weave" 3D embossing folder.  When I finished it seems to be reminiscent of something from the 70's!

The sentiment,  I chose from the "Timeless Tropical" stamp set, really seemed to fit "a friendship like ours is timeless".

Have you tried this technique before?

Tropical Oasis: Quick & Easy Thank you!

Don't you love quick and easy cards when you don't have much time or need it at the last minute?  This month the Tropical Oasis Suite was featured in class.

This is such a quick card, with a little Tropical Oasis DSP (Designer Series Paper©), including a strip that was cut off when cutting the main layer, another piece of cardstock for a background layer, a label die and another scrap of Whisper White for the sentiment.  Do you save your scraps?  I do, I used them all the time!

Tropical Oasis Memories & More: Aloha!

Have I mentioned that I love the Tropical Oasis Suite in the 2020 Mini Catalog?  I do! I had brilliant idea using the tiny little flowers, I have mentioned that I love those too!  Haha!

Today's card uses one of the Memories & More© cards from the Tropical Oasis Suite.  I had this brilliant idea of trying to make a lei from the flowers and thought this card went well with that inspirational idea.

I die cut a bunch of the flowers, using the "In The Tropics" coordinating dies, in an assortment of colors that are in the suite & used only the smallest ones.  I strung them on a piece of thin Baker's twine from a previous PP kit.  They are attached to the card with a couple of Glue Dots and one pearl to cover the center of the flower at the top.

Of course I had to use the little stars from the center of the flowers as an additional embellishment! I attached them with just a dot of the Multipurpose Liquid Glue,

The background layer is Calypso Coral run through my Big Shot in the Coastal Weave embossing folder, also from the Tropical Oasis Suite.

Love to hear your thoughts!  Thanks for stopping by!  Aloha!

February Paper Pumpkin Alternative - Happy Birthday

This morning when I woke up, I walked into my craft room, as I often do, and found I still had some of extra pieces from the February Paper Pumpkin kit on my desk.  I also had parts of  the coordinating SAB stamp set, "Happy Birthday To You" laying in a basket waiting...... So I started playing around with the bits and pieces and came up with this card.

Funny thing is, one of the pieces from the Paper Pumpkin kit I planned on using, I ended up not using but had chose the Pretty Peacock cardstock as my card base because of it.  The background layer is Petal Pink. I colored the flowers with my Stampin' Blends in Petal Pink and Old Olive.

The Petal Pink layer is die cut with the second largest die from the "Stitched Rectangles" dies.

The flowers in the upper corner are from the Happy Birthday stamp set, die cut with the coordinating "Birthday" dies.

The colors I used are Pretty Peacock, Petal Pink, Granite Gray (for stamping the images) and Old Olive.  I used on of the banners from the Paper Pumpkin kit, but cut it apart for the Birthday, from the Well Written dies, cut out of Copper Foil to match the copper metallic trim on the banner. I used the gorgeous sequins from the Paper Pumpkin kit.

This card will be going to a former friend and coworker.  Here birthday is tomorrow, but at least I have the right month, I think!  Happy Birthday Barb!

February Class Cards: Tropical Oasis Suite HIbiscus

This month I'm featuring the Tropical Oasis Suite   I love Hibiscus flowers, since my first visit to Florida for my 50th birthday.  My cousin had them growing in his back yard.  Somewhere I have a photo of me next to the tree. The tree was lost long gone to Katrina and well, I've changed as well.  :-)

I do love this suite!  I have plans to use it with a couple other sets, Tropical Chic stamp set and the coordinating Tropical dies which are still in the current catalog.  A couple other retired sets I'm going to pair this with is "Humming Along" and "Botanical Blooms".

Here is a card I created with the coordinating "Happy Birthday To You" stamp set and coordinating "Birthday dies" available for purchase.

Here are cards from the Paper Pumpkin kit! Aren't they adorable!

All of the script sentiments are on foam (think Dimensionals) and have copper foil.  Cooper foil also edges all of the banners.  (Don't throw away the foam from the script embellishments, save it to use like Dimensionals)

Love the beautiful edging on this elegant card.

This card has a notch and tab that tuck in together, underneath the flower to close the card.  So cute.

Tropical Oasis Memories & More: Pineapple Symbol of Hospitality

As I was going through the Memories & More cards from the Tropical Oasis Suite this morning I was struck with inspiration for this card!  It seem to cry out to me, "this would be perfect for a pineapple".

Pineapples are a symbol of Hospitality in Hawaii.  I thought this card would be perfect for someone going to Hawaii or for a thank you, or just to say "Aloha".

I saw a pineapple on Pinterest by Cheri Stojkovich, that had used a different technique for coloring the pineapple so this is my attempt.  Our pineapples look way different!  Haha!  She used pigment crystals.  I still have some of the crystals we sold in the past to I thought I would give it a whirl.

I cut two small rectangles of Watercolor paper, one for each of the "In the Tropics" pineapple dies from the Suite.

In The Tropics Dies

I spritzed both of them with water and then sprinkled them with the pigment crystals, one with yellow and the other with yellow & blue (to make green - my green crystals had a bunch of purple in it).  I swished the colors around with my Aqua painter and then hit them with my heat tool to dry them out a bit.  I'm please how well the colors match with the card!

The pineapple fruit has a bit of Daffodil Delight behind.  The leaves of the pineapple are die cut to have leaves pop out and I put Mini Dimensionals behind them to give them more of a 3D effect.

I cut the "Aloha" out of a scrap of woodgrain retired DSP.

I used a card and envelope from the Magnolia Lane cards and envelopes set.  For the liner I cut from a sheet of the Tropical Oasis DSP  with the pineapples and traced around liner from the Magnolia Lane card and envelope pack.

Tropical Oasis Memories & More: Quick and Easy Birthday card

This card was so super easy with the Tropical Oasis Memories & More card pack!  Great for a quick birthday card at the last minute.

Click here for a list of the supplies

The card is the background layer for the sentiment.  I used Granny Apple Green for the card base, Mango Melody for the card background layer.

I stamped some of the flowers in Mango Melody, on a circle, using the smallest flower from the Timeless Tropical stamp set. The sentiment is stamped in Soft Suede.  I also stamped some of the flowers on a scrap piece of paper for the banner.

The flower is die cut from Poppy Parade.  Super sweet and easy!

I also used one of the Elements from the Memories & More card pack on the inside.

Give it a try, let me know how you like it!

Tropical Oasis Memories & More: Let's Go To The Beach!

I love all things related to the beach. Just ask my friends.  The ocean, beach side cottages, shells, salt air, the flowers, the colors of surf and sand and then there is surfing!

When I was young I wanted to move to California and try my hand at surfing, just like Gidget, my favorite show at the time.  Well, that is a dream that will never come to pass, I never made it farther west than the Rockies.

When I saw the Tropical Oasis Suite in the 2020 Mini Catalog I knew I had to have it!  Today I'm using the coordinating Tropical Oasis Memories & More Cards.  And there is a card that says "Let's Go To The Beach"!

Click here for the products I used

My absolute favorite paper in the suite is the paper with the "woody" cars. I love those old cars! When I had to cut this sheet of Tropical Oasis DSP for this card I almost went into shock!  It was like cutting my son's hair for the first time! No going back!

It's such a quick and easy card to do.  Well, for most people.  I decided that this card needed a surfboard!  Silly me!  So I made one.  I had a scrap piece of paper that had an oval punched out.  So on another scrap of wood pattern DSP I drew my surf board, using the oval as guide. The left side of the surf board was the widest part of the oval and the flipped it around for the other side, matching the ends at the top and bottom, then I cut off the bottom a bit to make it flat.

Here's a tip when die cutting the little flowers from the In The Tropic dies.  The centers are little bitty stars so my Dutch self just couldn't throw them away!  I used them to embellish the card! And the smallest flower I used on the surf board.  If I would have had a mini Hibiscus flower I would have loved to had that for the surfboard. I put a little Very Vanilla dot behind the flower.

The Memories & More card packs are great for fast and beautiful cards! (unless you are me and decide to make your own embellishment!)
