Stylish Stems Gift Folder

Hey everyone, if you have been following my blog lately you've noticed a theme.  I'm on a gift box kick for cards.  Today's is more of a folder.  If there is enough interest I will make a video, please let me know in your comments.

Since I'm kinda on a Stylish Stems kick I thought way the heck not do another card too!  The card, is pretty straightforward.  I used Flirty Flamingo, Pool Party and So Saffron as the flower colors and Pear Pizzazz for the leaves.  I used all the sentiments in the set, one set for each card and I used almost all the Thinlits too! I also used some of the ribbon from the Sale-a-bration catalog.

I CASE'd this folder idea from someone, I believe in Germany, Kreativ mit Rat (h).  She used the Floral Phrases Thinlits.  This is her folder

When I made my folder I did either an ingenious thing or a dorky thing.  Instead of decorating the outside, I attached one of my cello sleeves to the front and inserted one of the cards.  Partly because 4 cards would not fit in the inside pocket.  So I improvised! If I would make this again I would adjust her measurements.

She did provide directions but they are all in German, so I just went by her English measurements on her pdf: http://www.tanja-rath.de/resources/cardfolderinch.pdf

When you make this folder you have to use 12 x 12 paper.  Sad to say I don't have a lot of that on hand, except some non-Stampin' Up.  My first attempt at this card was a disaster, well not exactly that bad but I measured wrong so the inside pockets were too small for an A2 card. So I used my non-SU paper just to work out the bugs so to speak.

Next time, I would make both score lines on all three sides 1/2" and 1" instead of 1/4" and 1/2". You would also have  to add another inch to the width and 1/2" to the height of the cut cardstock. You would also need to add 1/2" to the middle between score line on the folder.

The colored parts (shown in the pdf) you cut away.

She doesn't give measurements for the inside panels but they were about 4-1/2"  I just measured inside the score lines and then cut the panels and adhered them with some Tombow.

Score all the lines, then apply Tear and Tape to the bottom flap, attached the bottom flap over the side flaps, the will be a u shaped. Then apply Tear and Tape to the side flaps and lay it on the folder panel.

Here is my attempt, I think I might embellish the inside pockets a bit more and decorate the envelopes. But this was kind of a down and dirty quick attempt at this.  When I get my  SU 12 x 12 I will make some more of these.

On second thought, check back next week and I will have a video and the dimensions I used, I think that will make it easier for all of us!  Till then....

Thanks for stopping in.

Stylish Stems Gift Box

Helllooo everrybodeee! When I said that in my mind, it came out like Grover from Sesame Street.  I used to read "The Monster at the End of this book" to my son over and over when he was just a tot.  Now he's in his 30's.  Oh, sweet memories!  Now I love to read to my grandson's whenever I get the chance.

So, I promised you the directions to this beautiful gift box for those gorgeous Stylish Stems cards! I absolutely am in love with this DSP from the Fruit Stand collection!  I may have to stock up on more! The color is Flirty Flaming, which I also absolutely love!

I mention in the video that I CASE'd this box from someone in the UK, I thought it was Hedgehog Hollow, she made the note card size but I'm not able to find the video back so I can't be sure.   I redesigned the box size to fit our A2 or 5-1/2" x 4-1/2" cards.

Here is my video.

There is an addendum at the end of the video.  I forgot to cut the angles of the box as shown below.

Here are the directions and dimensions, I will give those also for the note card size:

For reference I'm going to refer the colors that I used to make my box.

A2 Size
Box:
  • Whisper White 8-3/4" x 6-1/2"
    • Score at 3-1/4, 4-1/4", Long Side
    • Score at 1" and 5-1/2", Short Side
DSP Panel (I used Fruit Stand DSP)
  •  4-1/4" x 3"
If you want to just do the box you can stop with these to pieces, if you also want to make the flap that goes over the top you will also need:

Flap that goes over the top
  • Whisper White 4-1/2" x 10-1/2"
    • Score at 3-1/2", 4-1/2" , Long Side
  • DSP Panel 4-1/4" x 3-1/4"
Belly Band:
  • Whisper White (I used a retired Irresistibly Yours DSP) 1A" x 11-1/2"
    • Score at 2-1/8, 3-1/8", 7-7/8" and 8-7/8".  One side will be a little longer than the other, but this will be covered up by the panel on the belly band
Belly Band Panel:
  • Whisper White
    • 3" x 3"(I again used the Irresistibly Yours for the back panel
    • 3" x 3" for the die cut flower
  • DSP (Fruit Stand)
    • 3' x 3" for the back of the white flower, cut with the matching Framelit.

Note Card Size:

Dimensions:

Card Stock: 9-1/2" x 3-1/2"

Box:
  • Score at 3-3/4", 4-1/2", 8-1/4" and 9" Long Side
  • Score at 3/4" both sides, short side
Flap:
  • Card stock is 3-3/4" x 10"
  • Score at 5-1/4" & 6", Long Side
Process for making this is the same as in my video.

Here are the supplies that I used to make the gift box (with the exception of the retired Irresistibly Yours DSP).  All the supplies are available in my store:

Stylish Stems Simplicity

Don't you love when simplicity and beauty come together.  I love this card for it's simplicity and understated elegance.

This beautiful set is one of my favorites from the 2017 Occasions catalog.  The stamp set is Special Reasons and comes with some wonderful sentiments and flowers.  (I love flowers as you've probably noticed). It also has some gorgeous flowers.  It reminds me of a zinnia.

And the Framelits, well so many beautiful things can be made with it.

The detailed flowers cut the flower parts, but do not cut it out of the paper, as we did in the card.  If you want to cut the whole flower out (as below), after cutting the detail then use the Framelit to cut if out of the paper.

Check out my video to see how easily this card goes together.  This card was born out of rethinking a gift box I had made.  My dear sister-in-law got me hooked on making gift boxes. (check out my next video on how I made that).

I loved the cards I made for the box.

I loved the cards that I made this box for, but didn't think they went together that well, so..... yes once again I woke up with this idea.  Making new cards!  And a new box for the other cards!  LOL, love when I get an idea that comes together.

Here are the dimensions for the card:

 Whisper White:
  • 1 pc. 8-1/1" x 5-1/2"
  • 1 pc 4-1/2" x 3-1/4"
  • 1 pc 4-1/4" x 5-1/2 this can be dry embossed with the embossing folder of your choice or, I used a piece of retired Irresistibly Yours DSP
DSP
  • 1 pc. 4-3/4" x 3-1/2"
  1. Fold the card base in half.
  2. Attached the 5-1/2" piece of Irresistibly Yours DSP or white embossed piece to the front of the card base.  (I like to cut this just a smidge smaller, gives it a little more dimension and easier to layer.
  3. Die cut the flower, about 1/2" from the top and the sides.
  4. Stamp the sentiment in Basic Black or Momento Black, I used Suite Sentiments, also in the 2017 Occasions catalog (love this set)
  5. Adhere the die cut piece to the DSP
  6. Wrap a piece of ribbon around the bottom and attached to the back with some snail.  I used the gold ribbon from ribbon combo in the Sale-a-bration catalog.
  7. Tie a smaller piece of the same ribbon around the wrapped piece. Trim the ends
  8. Attach some Dimensionals to the back of layered die cut piece.
  9. Attach the layered die cut piece to the front at an angle
  10. Adhere a little sequin with a glue dot, I used an iridescent white one, but you could use whatever your little heart desires.  One of the metal rimmed pearls would look great here too!
Voila!  You are finished!

I also used the small flower and leaf from the stamp set and stamped a flower and two leaves on the lower right corner of the inside of the card and also on the flap of the envelop.  These were stamped in Pink Pirouette and Pear Pizzazz.
f
For the card set I made two of these in the pink and two in green DSP.
