December 2019 Class Cards: Timeless Tropical, Young At Heart & Painted Poppies

For December's class my customers wanted to not do Christmas cards.  I think stampers, by the time the middle of December arrives, are a little Christmas'd out.  Personally I was looking forward to playing with some of the new things I got in my preorder for the new Stampin' Up!® Mini catalog that debuts January 3, 2020.

One of the sets is from the Annual catalog, "Young At Heart".  I love this set! I paired it with a

sentiment from one of the new sets in the Mini catalog, "Thanks for the Laughs"  which says "No one is as entertained by us as us,"  It reminds me a couple of friends and I and also my sister cousins.   It's a great set for friends and family.  I'm sure a lot of people can identify with this sentiment!  Haha!  Below is the card we made. It uses some DSP from  also from the new catalog.  The DSP is from the Painted Poppies Suite.

All of the supplies and instructions for the three cards in today's post are available on my Facebook Group page in the FILES section.  My  FB group page is "Cottage Lane Stamper & Friends".

YOUNG AT HEART CLING STAMP SET

The next card we made is also from the new catalog.  If you know me I love all things beachy and tropical so it was at the top of my wish list.  The suite is called Tropical Oasis.  The stamp set we used is Timeless Tropical.  This set has some wonderful stamps and dies.  I love the Hibiscus flowers! If you love pineapples there is a gorgeous pineapple die in this set!

We used the emboss resist technique on this card.  I saw a surf board on Pinterest which was my inspiration for this card.  The ribbon that we used is also in the new catalog, called Crinkle Seam Binding Ribbon.  What is so amazing about this ribbon is that you can color it to whatever color you need with your Stampin' Blends or run it across your ink pad!!!  Great when you don't have the ribbon on hand that you need for a card!  The instructions and supplies for this card are also available in PDF form on my FB page.

The last card we made is from a wonderful new suite called Painted Poppies.  This suite has 2 stamp sets, one with images and one with sentiments AND two dies sets!  I can't share the images from the catalogs yet or I would post them.  I can tell you the suite is worth the money.  It has some beautiful DSP and an element kit that has some beautiful embossed velum, stickers, black labels and so much more.  The sequins, that come in the suite are ADORABLE!  They have tiny little poppies in them!!! We used them on this card and the first card in this post.

This card uses one of the dies in the set, to cut out the background.  We put it in opposite corners of the card layer. I love the white on white effect.  The label is also one of two label dies in the set. There are poppy dies in both the die sets!  Some for the DSP and some for the stamps!  I can't wait to see all the ideas that come pop up on Pinterest with this suite!

I hope you enjoy these card ideas.  If you give them a try I'd love to hear about it!

You'll be able to purchase these beautiful stamp set/suites starting January 3!  If you don't have a demonstrator click here to shop in my store:  https://sharonbrennan.stampinup.net

I'll be doing a couple videos later previewing the products I presented here today.  Stay tuned!  (I have a couple special orders to finish up for customers before Christmas)

Shrinky Dink Scissor Charms & tip for clear images

Do you ever find you have an idea for something and that leads to something else?  That's what happened to me this week.  I had an idea for a stain glass image with one of my Christmas stamp sets and, while looking for some ideas on that, I got sidetracked with an idea to make some smaller ornament sized "charms".  That led me to videos on scissor charms. Sometimes looking on Pinterest is like going down a rabbit hole!  Haha!

When I saw the scissor charms, I thought what a good idea for a small gift for my class members at our next class.

I ordered some white shrink film/paper "Shrinky Dinks" from Amazon and it was delivered the next day!  Woohoo!

When watching the videos, everyone kept mentioning how slippery this white film is.  Boy is it!  In my video you will see the results of my first attempts.  There is also a clear film, which has a rougher side.  I used this before and didn't seem to have as much of a problem.  But with the white film it doesn't have a "wrong" side.

My first attempts were not successful as my stamp slid all over the paper.  Watch my video, I'll show you a tip on how to avoid all this!  SUCCESS!

I used Stampin' Up!'s retired Archival Basic Black ink, you will need this, if you have it in your stash or Stazon*, which is an alcohol ink.  Waterbased inks will not work for this.  *Make sure you have the Stazon cleaner and clean your stamps right away, or the ink could damage them.

I also ordered the some "lanyard split ring straps" for mobile phones from Amazon to attach the charms to scissors. They are pretty inexpensive and come in various quantities.

(Here's another tip) If you order these cute little lanyards, get a "split ring pliers", to make life easier, when putting these on your charms. (Walmart has them for as little as $5.00.   I didn't have one, but am getting one tomorrow to finish up my charms.

I'll be adding some ribbon, in different colors, to my charms so my members can keep track of their scissors.

If you use the clear film for your charms, you can color them with our Stampin' Write markers, not our Stampin' Blends, they get a little streaky and the coverage isn't as good.  Color before you shrink them.  ;-)

Let me know what you think of these cute little charms.  I'm also thinking of making some other types for sale at craft fairs.  The options are endless!  Even some ornaments for my miniature Christmas tree!

Let it Snow DSP and Embellishment = Quick and Easy Card!

The "Let it Snow" DSP (Designer's Series Paper) from the 2019 Holiday catalog is absolutely adorable!  Did you notice that it is all glitzy!  I didn't until I opened up the package today.  Missed that in the photos in the catalog and online.

There are a couple of designs that are just perfect for making a quick and easy card when paired with the "Let It Snow" embellishment kit.  Just love the tiny little mittens, scarves and hats!  There are 4 felt sheets, one in each color of Coastal Cabana, Flirty Flamingo, Shaded Spruce and Real Red.

Here's a quick video on just how easy this card is.  It would be a great project to do with the kidlets!

Mini Curvy Keepsakes Box

Have you seen the Mini Curvy Keepsakes box?  They are adorable!  There are so many cute ideas on Pinterest using this dies.

Wouldn't these make cute party favors, a great idea for a craft fair item, an addition to a Christmas gift or even a tuck a tiny gift in it like jewelry?  They are so easy and quick to make.  I made a few for a Christmas Tea that I'm hosting for my team. (Sorry surprise is out!)

I didn't realize until I opened the DSP how gorgeous it was.  The catalog and online photos do not do justice to it.  You can't tell that the snowmen and trees actually have glitter on them!  I was totally surprised when I finally opened it today.  And there is a couple of sheets that lend themselves so easily to a quick card. (check out my next video)

Here's a quick video on how fast they go together and how beautiful the paper is.

I hope you will give these a try.

November 2019 Class Card: 3D Easel Calendar

Easel Calendar

Love a great idea for a gift that you can mail?  This Easel Calendar is easy to make and friends and family will love to receive them!

It takes less than one sheet of cardstock for the base and easel. The best part is it folds nicely in an A2 card envelope which fits a card 5 1/2" x 4 1/4".

Click on the caption for a list of the supplies used on this gorgeous calendar!

You can find the a pdf of the instructions and list of supplies on my FB group page: Cottage Lane Stamper & Friends under the files section.

For those of us who are visual learners, here's a video for you!

The letters were cut with my ScanNCut machine since I do not have small dies only large ones.  The calendars were purchased by a friend of mine from Taylored Expressions and she kindly shared them with me on the spur of the moment.  They are fairly inexpensive.

November 2019 Class Card: Toile Christmas Cardinal

I love this card and I've shared it before, but I thought it was so beautiful I wanted to share it with my class.

I used one of our new products, Shimmery Crystal Effects on the berries.  When you squeeze it out, gently, let it pile up a bit and you can get a nice round effect, like the berries that you find on wreaths this time of year.

Make sure when using the Stampin' Blends that you use the Memento Black ink so the image doesn't bleed when you do your coloring.

For a list of the products used click on the caption under the photo.  You can find a pdf of the supplies and instructions in the files section of my FB Group page: Cottage Lane Stamper & Friends.

PS There is a glitch with my website and the Woodlands Embossing Folder used here is not coming up.  The item # is 1152881 and is $8.50

November 2019 Class Card #1: "Feels Like Frost"

Can I say I love, love, love this paper!  Living in Minnesota it won't be long before our trees and bushes will be bathed in sparkling, white snow.  As well as our roads and sidewalks, which I'm not too  excited about.  But I digress.

Feels Like Frost click on title for list of products!
This paper is absolutely beautiful. One side has these beautiful photgraphs/images and the other is silver foil.

This is a simple card, very quick and easy.  The "thanks" is from the Well Written dies and the ribbon is Seaside Metallic, one of our new In Colors.  Love it when something is easy and beautiful!

TIP:  How many of you use the broad tip on the bottle of Multipurpose Glue?  Do you even know it's there?  Well, when you have fine/narrow items to attach to your card, like the "thanks" for this one.  Put your item upside down on your silicone mat ,  take the cover off of the "bottom" of your Multipurpose glue bottle, give it a little squeeze and the dab the glue on your item.  Voila!  It's all covered, so to speak!

Fall Time, Craft Time, busy, busy, busy.

How has your fall been so far?  Mine has been busy, busy, busy, with gearing up for craft fairs and classes.  I also had a couple health issues which interfered with my stamping.  So, I have been a little remiss in updating my blog.  I have been posting things to my Facebook Group Page: Cottage Lane Stamper & Friends, but not everyone is on FB.

So my dear FB free friends this is for you.  I want to share with you what I have been up to.  So many beautiful sets in the Holiday catalog. Not enough time to play with them all but I'm trying!  Hahaha!

Here's what I've been  playing with.  If you click on the photo it will take you to a mini site and show you the items needed to make it and you can shop from right there.  Also, I am making pdfs for my classes cards and a few others, which are found in the files section of my group FB page.  Since there isn't a way for me to post them here, let me know if you are interested and I can email it to you.  Or you can click here if you have FB account and just want the pdfs and it will take you to the list of files.

Now for the fun stuff!

Pressed Petals - Thank You!

I've been waiting to finish my craft fair items to play with my new suites from the new catalog. One of those was the beautiiful Pressed Petals Washi Tape. They were so popular that they were on back order during our preorder period.

I put together this simple and quick card with the two pieces of the Pressed Petals DSP, the Pressed Petals Washi Tape and some of the Scalloped Lace Trim.

The background is a piece of Crumb Cake stamped with the Crackle stamped in Crumb Cake ink. The card base is Very Vanilla.

The Washi Tape flower is made with 6 of the petals from the washi tape, which are sticky on the back. I put them on a 1" circle of Blackberry Bliss, popped it up with a Dimensional and accented it with one of the gold Faceted Gems. (To make the backs of the petals less sticky I just dabbed them a little with my Embossing Buddy.)

The sentiment is from the Perennial Essences stamp set, stamped in Blackberry Bliss on Very Vanilla. I die cut it with one of the dies from the Stitched Nested Label set. Then used the straight die from the set and added a row of the stitching to the top and bottom at the depth I wanted and then cut it down, to about 3/4" with my new paper trimmer!

If you like this quick and simple card please give me a thumbs up! Love to hear feedback from you all.

Stamparatus for Stress Free Christmas Stamping!

Do you get frustrated when stamping multiple things like Christmas cards?  There have been years, when making my mini cd calendars for craft fairs, that I thought I would never finish.  I would keep messing up, sometimes over and over!

So much wasted paper, time and energy.  This year, I'm blessed to say, that I'm already up to August and haven't had to reprint anything!  All due to the Stamparatus!  I've done videos on this before but today I thought I would show you how easy it is to use, when making my calendars.

The stamp set I'm using, Painted Harvest, is not an easy one to line up, but today it was, dare I say, a breeze!

Hope you enjoy this video.

You can purchase the Stamparatus here for a list of the products and to  shop for your Stamparatus here!

The template for the calendar is available in my Etsy store: Cottage Lane Stamper

New and more secure website

Hello!

Stampin’ Up! recently updated my website! To ensure you have the best experience, the next time you visit my site, please make sure not to include “www.” at the front of the URL. Or you can simply click the following link and save it as a favorite so you don’t have to think about it: https://sharonbrennan.stampinup.ner

If you forget and do include “www.” at the front, it’s possible you will see an error telling you the site may not be secure. That’s not true; in fact, it’s more secure that it was before the update! That “www.” is the problem.

Hope you check it out soon!

Cute Rolo & Hershey Kiss Pencil

I saw these a while ago and thought I would try my hand at them for the craft fair to see how they would go.

I had a few bumps along the way since all I had were dimensions and no instructions. I thought this week was Friday the 13th instead of last week!  Hahaha I was scoring in the wrong direction, cutting instead of scoring, couldn't get the Hershey Kisses to stick, and a few other things.  I think I have the bugs worked out, except one that I figured out off camera.  But I did put together a pdf and have the Hershey kiss bug worked out there.

You can find the pdf with instructions, dimensions and supplies on my Facebook Group page: Cottage Lane Stamper & Friends under files.

Let me know if you give this a try and if you have any suggestions for improvements.

Thanks for stopping by!

Are you also a DSP (Designer Series Paper) hoarder too!  I am.

This is a quick and easy box to make.  The video shows me making a 2" box for treats for my card class ladies. I had to suspend classes for a few months due to some health issues with my hands. Kinda integral to making cards.

The photo below is a 4" box.  Instructions are available in pdf form on my Facebook Group Page: Cottage Lane Stamper & Friends, under "files".

Give me a thumbs up if you enjoyed this!

You can purchase more DSP through my store:  https://sharonbrennanstampinup.net .  There is a sale going on right now until Sept 30, 2019.  Buy 3 get 1 free!

Magnolia Lane Memories & More Quick Cards!

One of the new suites in the 2019-2020 Annual Catalog is the "Magnolia Lane" suite.

Part of this beautiful suite is the packet of Memories & More cards.  These are great for quick scrap booking with our insert pages, but also for quick cards.

Here are a few ideas that I put together this morning in a short time.  Some cards, like the note cards, only took seconds. The fronts of the cards are on the left and the insides are on the right, except the note cards that are in the last 4 photographs.

Inside card to left with 2 stickers from sticker sheet for sentiment and also flower from sticker sheet

Some of the cards I stamped a sentiment from the stamp set and some of them are preprinted.

Also part of the suite are the cards and envelopes that I used in the samples above.  They are a kraft paper, with silver trim on the one side of the card, that you can use inside or outside.  There is also silver trim on the envelopes and you get 20 cards and 20 envelopes!

The envelopes also come with some beautiful insert liners. To use the insert, just slide it into the envelope and put a line of adhesive just below the top edge underneath the insert, nothing on the bottom.  This allows the insert to slide up a little when opened and  closed.  If you don't want to use the inserts you can used them as DSP for other cards or projects..

The Memories & More packet has two sizes of cards with a design on both sides.  The large ones are 4" x 6" and the smaller ones are 3" x 4".

The smaller cards work perfect with the Memories & More Whisper White Small Memories & More Cards & Envelopes note cards in the current catalog (the last 4 photos).  Or you can also use the larger cards with the Whisper White Large Memories & More Cards & Envelopes.

Some ideas from the Magnolia Suite are shown on the bottom half of the catalog cover. I can't show you the inside but I can show you the products!  There is one item that wasn't available to us yet, and that is a Magnolia 3D embossing folder.

CLS April Class Card #3: Beach Happy!

I'm moving right into summer!  It's been a much too long a winter and way too much snow!

This card is made withe Beach Happy stamp set in the Occasions catalog.  If this is on your "gotta have it" list, get it some because it's not being carried over and when supplies run out it's bye, bye Beach Happy!

If you know me, then you know I love anything beachy.  The only thing missing in this set, as far as I'm concerned is a pair of flip flops! It's 50 degrees out, warm by Minnesota standards and I'm wearing mine already.

Directions:

  • The card base is 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" of Whisper White cardstock, scored at 4-1/4"
  • The base layer is Flirty Flamingo (one of my favorite colors, maybe because it also reminds me of warmer climes)
    • It is cut 4" x 5-1/4"
    • I ran it through the Big Shot (retiring) using the Seaside embossing folder.(make sure you put it through the Big Shot with the "waves" going the right direction.
  • Another piece of Whisper White is used for the stamped image.  It is 3-3/4" x 4"
    • I found it easier to stamp the palm tree first on the left, in Soft Suede. When putting it on the clear block, bend it a little to over shadow the chair and umbrella.
    • The palm tree leaves are stamped in Pear Pizzaz.
    • The umbrella/chair image is stamped in Black Memento.
    • The chair strips are stamped in Flirty Flamingo
    • The umbrella is stamped in Coastal Cabana. If you have a hard time getting it all filled in, I used the Bermuda Bay Stampin' Blend to fill in white areas.  Seems to match pretty well.
    • The hat is stamped in Black Memento and the colored in with Daffodil Delight Stampin' Blend.
      • I used the dark blender pen for the underside of the had and the lighter color for the top of the hat.
      • I used my Black Stampin' Write marker to color in the black band on the hat.
    • The sentiment is stamped on a scrap of Daffodil Delight in Memento Black and punched out with the 1-1/4" circle punch. The sentiment is popped up with Dimensionals.
      • There are 3 circle punches being retired, this is one of them, the other two are the 1-3/4" and the 3/4" circle punches.
      • If one or all of these are on your wish list order early, supplies are limited.

Tips on Organizing new stamp sets & dies/bundles and using Pinterest
