Fun Fold: Side Panel Card

April has always been a busy birthday month for me.  About 2 or 3 cards a week about 12 in total.  This month would have also been my mother's 95th birthday, we lost her a year and a half ago.

In addition, I have also been sending out cards for sympathy, 5 so far this month, all not related to the pandemic.  A friend lost her father, a cousin died of cancer so cards for his two brothers and wife and  a former coworker his son.

I've also sent out Thinking of You cards to people who are alone and shut in and a Get Well card to a friend from church who fell and injured herself.

I also just remembered I need to make a card for my grandson, marking the 1st anniversary of his baptism.

The other day I was looking for card ideas and clicked on this link, not even sure how I got there.  :-) But it was for a fun fold she called a Side Panel card.  It was in a 5" x 7" format.  Since all of my cards, typically are of the A2 size 4-1/4" x 5-1/2.  I decided to adapt it to the A2 size.  Well, 2 days later!!!!!!!

I made several attempts with scrap paper, trying to get the dimensions right with a template.  When I decide to use card stock I had an extra score mark so it didn't work out right.  I think I spent 4 hours the first attempt at "getting it right", then another hour or so later in the day and gave up.  Math is not my strong suit!!!
Then last night I sat with some graph paper, my trusty paper trimmer in my lap as I watched TV and finally, finally got it right after re-watching the video a few times.

Here's the card I finally came up with, well actually it's the second.  I was almost done with the first card after the final draft and then was led to use this paper.

This card is for my daughter, she doesn't follow me, as a matter of fact is not even talking to me at the moment, but I still feel led to continue to do what I have always done, send cards and leaving the rest to God.

This is the front, she loves to read, so her card includes a bookmark. The ribbon on the bookmark is the white "Crinkled Seam Binding" from the 2020 Jan - June Mini Catalog, that I colored with the Pretty Peacock by running it across the stamp pad and then running it through a piece of tissue to take off the excess ink.  I really love this ribbon, I've done this a number of times to get matching ribbon.

There is room for your sentiment on the back.

The original card did not call for DSP on the right side and top & bottom of the sentiment panel. I was trying to be so careful when folding the scores but accidentally bent it in the middle of the top and bottom strips so reinforced it with a little DSP on the back.

The colors are Pretty Peacock, the DSP is the retired "Love To Share" suite from the last catalog (2018-2019).  The die cut is from the "Stitched Shapes" die set, also retired from the same catalog.  The Happy Birthday is from the "Love What You Do" stamp set #148042.

This is the first card I made and it has a background layer of Very Vanilla, which I decided to forego on this card.  When I turned the DSP over I decided the other side was more my daughter's style so switched it up.

The background stamp of leaves is from Very Versailles (second generation in Crumb Cake) and the sentiment, in Early Espresso, is from "Hold On To Hope" stamp set. Guess that's what I'm doing in this current storm I'm in.

If you would like to look at the video that I saw by Sam Calcott of the UK this is her link: 5" x 7" Side Panel Card.

Here is the template that I came up with:
