Brusho Techniques Class

Yesterday I held my first Techniques class, we started with a NEW fun product from Stampin' Up!, Brusho!

These are little pots of color crystals that when the come in contact with water, activate and move around an gorgeous colors.  The colors are not Stampin' Up! colors but they do pair beautifully with our colors.

I would recommend using either Watercolor Paper or Shimmer Paper.  Also when affixing it to your card/card layers, I would use either Tear & Tape or Fast Fuse, since your paper will warp a bit and this will give you a better finished product.

We tried 3 different applications.

EMBOSSING RESIST & SPRINKLING 1ST

This effect was achieve by sprinkling the paper with the blue, yellow and red Brusho crystals.

Before taping the watercolor paper down.  Emboss your image first.  We used clear, white or iridescent  embossing powder.

  • We taped the paper to some inexpensive cutting boards that you can get at the Dollar Store or Walmart, use the blue painters tape.
  • I also cut the paper larger so we could trim it down if some of the paper came up with the tape)
  • Then with a spritzer, spritz your crystals with the water to activate the crystals.  It's so cool to see it move around and create your design!
  • We let them dry while we went on to the other cards.
SPRITZ THEN SPRINKLE

This next effect was achieved by spritzing the watercolor paper first, give it a pretty good saturation.  You could also tape this down, first.  The we sprinkled the blue crystals on the saturated paper.  Some of them stayed like little spots and some moved around.  No two cards were alike, that's what made this fun!

COLOR WASH

This last technique was achieve by putting some of the blue brusho in a little dish.  I had some little painters trays.  Then, with a bottle of water (Like a travel bottle with a lid that screws open) we added a drop or two at a time until we got the color that we liked.  Then simple wash this over some Shimmer Paper with an Aqua Painter.

We did the cards in this order so each would have a chance to dry.

One big tip:  Poke a hole in the top of the Brusho container with a push pin.  Do not take the lid off the jar, it is very fine and will poof everywhere!  Then put the push pin back into the top of the lid to seal it.  :-)

Which effect do you like the best?  Which are you going to try first?
