Tips on Organizing new stamp sets & dies/bundles and using Pinterest

Not being organized makes me go in a tizzy!  I like to be able to put my hands on a stamp set when I'm creating a card.  Looking for a sentiment can or an image can take anxious moments. so I like to make it as easy as possible and it all starts with the arrival of new stamps, dies, punches and DSP.

Here's a quick video on how I start with organizing my stamp sets, dies and punches using my photocopier, my Brother label maker and velcro dots from the dollar store.

Up until recently I have used Evernote to organize my stamp  & die images, stamp sentiments and DSP by patterns and colors.  I have to change my ways.  Evernote used to be free for up to two devices.  They are now charging $149 a year.  I can't afford that.  But I did notice the other day that Pinterest is now allowing tags, visible to the account owner.  I'm going to try to use that going forward.

I normally add my cards to Pinterest, and save card ideas to my boards by catalog or theme.  I will now try to use this for saving copies of the stamp sets. You can capture current images from the online Stampin' Up!© digital catalog/store. Or you can take a photo of your stamp set and print it out,

Here are the steps to create a board, add a section (I go by catalog you can also go by theme) and add a pin with tags.

CREATING A BOARD IN PINTEREST

Go to your Pinterest Profile on the right click on the + sign and then click on the Board from the drop down list.

You will then get this screen where you can give your board a name, in this case I'm creating a board for the 2024 January to April Mini Catalog.  From here I will create a section for the stamp set.

CREATING A SECTION

Click the Plus + sign at the bottom of the screen. You'll get this drop down list, click on Section.

Give your section a name, in this case I'm creating a section for each stamp set in this catalog that I have.

CREATING A PIN

Next we will create the Pin.  Click on the plus + sign at the bottom of the page again.

Click on Pin instead of Section

Next we will add our Pin.
  • There will be a section of the left side where you can go to your files and add the ima↞.

  • Give your pin a title, I'm using the name of the stamp set
  • Give your pin a description.  One thing I forgot to do was to enter the cross reference for the die set/punch.  I will go into edit Pin later and add this.
  • Next you can enter a URL if you have a website, like a blog where, this is located.  Otherwise it will just show an photos of the pin.
  • Next it will show what board it is attached to.  If you change your mine you can correct it here.
  • Lastly, and most important for me, is to enter the tags. I usually tag events, themes, images and sentiments like miss you, welcome, mail box

Lastly, make sure you click Publish on the upper right-hand side to save your work.  Now next time you can go to your account and search your pins for the image or stamp set.

I would love to hear if this makes organizing your stamp sets, dies and even DSP (I tag patterns ands colors).

Mini Gift bag with Mini Desk Calendar

Christmas is over but not for me.  I won't be celebrating Christmas with my family until after the 1st of the year.  This year I'm giving my daughter, her husband and their three sons along with my son a pillow covered with one of my dad's flannel shirts that I saved after he passed away.  I have a cousin who is a treasure and great quilt maker.  She did the same thing with her dad's shirts so she offered to turn my dad's flannel shirts into pillows for me.

Many years ago my dad had a heart attach when he was in his 50's and to help him to stop smoking he always had Chiclets in his shirt pocket.  The grand kids would always hop on his lap and help themselves to one.  They no longer make Chiclets in a box with 10 pieces of gum, but I was able to find mini Chicklets in a small package. So each shirt has a package of Chicklets as well as a laminated photo of my parents' last Christmas together.  I didn't know when I took that photo that it would be their last Christmas.  He passed away about 30 days later.

Also in the gift bag with the pillow, for my son, daughter & son-in-law I included a calendar. My daughter has one of the mini-cd calendars that I make. (I'll post a photo below) and I made another type of calendar in a regular CD case for my son & son-in-law. (see photos below)

I also made a gift bag for their calendars. (find a YouTube link below for this gift bag) . Last night I decided to make a desk calendar for each of my grandsons that holds Post-It notes and a mini pen (the mini pens haven't arrived yet, I found them on Amazon). They are homeschooled and I thought this might be a handy thing to have on their desks.

Here are photos of the calendars and the gift bags.  The gift bags are made with 2 sheets of 6" x 6". retired DSP (a great way to use retired DSP). You can used a l2 x 12 piece of cardstock to make the calendar/Post It note holder and the bag and still have some left over.  Below are instructions for both the calendar and a video tutorial for the gift bag.

Desk Calendar with Post-It© notes and mini pen

Card stock:

Easel base
3-3/4" x 10-1/2", scored on long side at 4", 8", 9" & 10"

Post-It Note Holder:
4-3/4" x 7: score on long side at 4" & 4-1/2", score on short side at 1/2" and 4-1/4". On the larger score part, 1-1/2" from top score up to the perpendicular score line, on both sides ( this is in the 1/2" section)

DSP:
3-1/2" x 3" & 3-1/2 x 2-1/4"

Easel base: Burnish score lines, fold largest section down and using a corner rounder, round the top corners. Starting at the 1/2" flap fold in zigzag fashion, with valley, mountain, valley, mountain.  On the 1/2" flap attach adhesive then fold the top down and seal.

Post-It Note Pocket:

Post-It Note Holder:
Card stock: 4-3/4" x 7: score on long side at 4" & 4-1/2", score on short side at 1/2" and 4-1/4". On the larger score part, 1-1/2" from top score up to the perpendicular score line, on both sides ( this is in the 1/2" section)

This little part that is 1-1/2" from the top and 1/2" in from the side, trim this piece out.

Snip the little square up to the score line.

Using your corner round, round the corners of the top of the pocket.
Next we will adhere the DSP.  Take the 3-1/2" x 3" and round the corners on long side.
Adhere this piece to the pocket on the larger half, where you have just rounded the corners.

Put adhesive on the bottom flaps on both sides. Use a strong adhesive like Tear & Tape, Multipurpose Glue or Stampin' Seal +©

Attach the bottom flaps to the top flaps, tucking in the little tiny flaps in first.

Next, apply the other piece of DSP to the front of the pocket.

Attach the calendar to the front of the pocket with a strong adhesive.

Next we will attached this pocket to the easel base, using a strong adhesive.
And you are done!!!! Add your Post-It notes and pens. (my pens haven't arrived yet, but I found these on Amazon. I'm going to take off the little key chain.  There are other options with larger quantities, but I only need three.

Here is how I made the gift bag.  I CASE'd this from Karen Titus' Facebook Page "Stampin' On The Back Porch.

Gnome Fever

It's gotten me a little bit to get into the Christmas card making mode and right now I'm in a gnome mood. This set came out last year with the dies and then in the spring mini they came out with a spring set. I bought both sets and the dies go with both sets. They've been retired, which is too bad because they are so cute.
I posted a gnome card the other day. This morning I woke up around 3 and couldn't get back to sleep so I thought I would play with the gnome sets again. I also used the retired paper for both cards as backgrounds and this first card I also used the dies to cut out three of the gnomes.

I die cut the gnomes, the die cut some rectangles and layered those on card stock that coordinated with the gnomes hats. I used a little Night of Navy ribbon and layered it all on Night of Navy. I embellished them with some little snowflakes.

The inside I stamped the Christmas greeting and another little gnome with a lantern. I also used an ink that was retired several years ago called Illuminate and stamped a background of stars.

This second card I used the dies for the gnome and cut all the little pieces, even some hands, using the mushroom die and the nose dies to make the arms and hands. I put a little Wink of Stella on his beard. The snow shoes are from a retired set from a few years ago, called Alpine Sports. It's a cute set with sleds and skis and the adorable snow shoes. I put a layer of Early Espresso behind the snow shoes, which are die cut from Cinnamon Cider.

The tree is die cut from Early Espresso using the In The Woods die set. I wish I would have had foam sheets on hand (I ran out) and then it would have puffed up the tree a little. I put a little iridescent glitter on the tree and some pearlized paint on the edges of the skis. I also added some Wink of Stella to the Balmy Blue accents on the trees in the DSP. It's hard to tell in the photo. I die cut a snowflake for the top of the gnomes hat and put a rhinestone in the center.

This card is stamped the same way as the first, on the inside. I stamped the insides first before applying the front, just in case I messed up the stamping.

Well, maybe now I can take a nap. LOL.

Until next time! Happy stamping!
